Quake2 is id's latest , as usual its even better than the last one , a whole lot of fun . I havn't finished the game and probably never will , it's just too much fun to play on line . Why hunt monsters when you can hunt your fellow man ?

Playing on line is very well worked out and there are two main (and many other "mods" as well) types of play , DEATHMATCH...kill everyone you meet and CTF (capture the flag) a cooperative game with two teams fighting , each trying to get the other guy's flag .

It is hard to explain how much fun this game can be , it seems on the surface to be a "fast twitch" shooter and indeed practice is essential to "get good" but the amazing graphics and smooth play are rewards for even a newbie . The ability to talk to both your enemy (in deathmatch) and your team (in ctf) has always been a part of id's games and contributes to the merriment . It is not unusual to have the game dissolve into hilarity after a particularly great (or stupid) move with players cheering and adding their comments . The really good players often handicap themselves with a "stream of comments" while they play cheering and jeering each other .
It is a game for everyone , my 19 year old daughter "Lucretzia" loves to play and is good (there are both male and female models in the game ) , my son is 30 and the mighty "Gibatron" is a force to be reckoned with and me "GreyDeth" at 51 an old but quite deadly fool .
